Jesper Juul –born in 1948, the Danish family therapist and educator, the European authority on child-rearing. Manages a network of educational counseling Family-Lab International in more than fifteen countries around the world. He manages lectures, seminars and workshops for parents all over the world.
He studied history, philosophy and history of ideas at the University of Aarhus. During his studies he worked in social care. On one of the training courses he met an American psychiatrist Walter Kepler. They established a close cooperation. In 1979, he founded the Scandinavian Kepler Institute, which educated future teachers. After several years Juul took over management of the Institute and held this position until 2004. In 2007, Jesper Juul founded the Family-Lab International, which has offices not only in Europe but also in South America. His goal is to help parents and children by promoting the idea of education based on mutual respect of all members of the family. Extensive experience has enabled Juul therapeutic formulation of a new paradigm in the field of education, which was laid down in the book “Your competent child”. It stands in opposition to both the authoritarian upbringing and stress-free education. It gives an opportunity to understand the behavior of children in the today world and provides guidance for parents looking for healthy relationships with their children.
